So, after searching forever for a tutorial or pattern for a knitting needle case for interchangeable needles, I finally decided to design my own. I knew it needed to have separate pockets for the cables and somewhere to keep the needle pairs so this is what I came up with! The pocket accordion velcros to the front of the first needle pocket flap and that one has velcro keeping it secured to the needle pocket in back. That one is sewed to the case itself and has an extra pocket behind it. I also put in a small pocket for tiny things in the back of the last cable pocket.
(Pocket no longer sounds like a word to me.)
The whole thing is made out of felt, with the outer case reinforced with that plastic mesh people sometimes cross stitch on. It’s a simple design but it’s working out perfectly! I’m super proud of it.
Sorry about the ‘SkillzMcFly’ url stamped all over the pictures. I was having fun with that font and I went overboard. I love that it looks like those plastic labels though!
I got my KnitPicks Options interchangeable knitting needles today and they’re gorgeous. I couldn’t be happier! They’re so shiny and chrome like (they’re actually plated in nickel) and the cables are nice and bendy with the joints being wonderfully smooth. This was a great pick. Thank you for talking me into them 2sigma! I am literally buzzing with joy over these. I would have been so upset if I’d spent the extra money on the Addi needles and didn’t like them. These are perfect. My only complaint it that they don’t have sizes 1-3 but it doesn’t seem like any sets do. I have double pointed needles for that if it comes down to it though.
Squee! I’m going to go play with them now!
I feel like I’ve been working on this forever but it’s coming out pretty well, I think. I really like colors I dyed this yarn too. This is going to be the first of two arm warmer/fingerless gloves. I think I might reach the thumb hole tonight! Exciting stuff!
I want to buy a set of circular needles because I have the money and if I don’t do it now, I never will. The book I’m learning from (Stitch’n Bitch, The Knitter’s Handbook) has three different sizes it says I should buy, along with straight and double pointed needles, but I can’t buy all three circular sets right now. She says to buy a 32” set, a 24” and a 16” set.
What length should I start with? I’m assuming that depends on what I want to make but I want to make all the things! I especially love amigurumi, but I can usually crochet those. I do want to make sweaters for my daughter and myself and socks for my husband though. I already have a two sets of double pointed needles: size 2 and size 8.
Should I just get a 9 inch set of double pointed needles? Uhg… I don’t know. Help a new knitter out?
