Voelkers Bowling Alley in Buffalo NY

Oh man! What a great gif! I did a whole lot of partying down the street from this bowling alley with the good ol’ AMC theaters crew. It’s a good thing there was a Wegmans across the street from my friend’s house because my car would have gotten towed a lot. I don’t think I ever drove myself home from there.

I think we’re in for some nasty weather. It’s weird. The front doesn’t look like it has any moisture in it but as soon as it goes over the lake, it just appears. I hope we get a ton of thunderstorms! It’s getting crazy windy here now, so hopefully that translates into something good. We never get anything like the middle of the country though. We drove through a storm in Indiana and one in Texas once and if the sky ever looked like that here, people would think it was the Apocalypse. I’m glad our severe weather only involves snow. I can handle snow.

Where Anderson Cooper calls Buffalo’s Dyngus Day celebrations “stupid”.

I was kind of annoyed with this but he’s right. It is stupid. But a lot of people in Buffalo love Dyngus day, me included. You dance to polka music, eat Polish food, get drunk and have a good time. Sure, it involves some weird shit, like guys squirting girls with squirt guns and women hitting men with pussy willows but it’s supposed to be goofy and fun. A lot of people look forward to Dyngus day here and I don’t think we should be ashamed of being the Dyngus Day capitol of the world.

It hit 64 degrees here today! It was fantastic. We spent two hours running around the park with Evie and in spite of the 3 hours of sleep I got last night, I feel pretty good. Now I’m drinking some coffee and enjoying the sun going down.
Evie is going to be out like a light tonight. And so am I.

Clients From Hell: Freelancer Payment Protection Act

clientsfromhell:

Freelancing isn’t free. When a client doesn’t pay, copious amounts of time and money are needed to chase that paycheck. Let’s change that.

TheFreelancer Payment Protection Act
– which would legally protect freelancers from non-paying clients – needs your help.

Over 1,000 freelancers are already a part the campaign. The bill recently pushed through the New York State Assembly and secured key Republican and Democratic sponsors along the way. But we’re not done yet.

When I was pregnant, Eric and I used to go to the Albright-Knox Art Gallery a lot and I would dream about taking our soon to be daughter when she was old enough to appreciate art as art. Tonight, we did that and it was amazing.
She looked at every piece there and as she looked, we’d ask her what she thought it looked like or what she liked about the piece and she always came up with great answers. She related to them, with her almost 4 year old mind and it was adorable and impressive at the same time. She saw things I wouldn’t have seen if she hadn’t been there and it felt good.
Ever since the gallery got a new curator a few years ago, they finally started rotating the pieces they own and now we get to see new things every time we visit. Evie’s favorite artist was Toulouse-Lautrec, specifically his painting Jane Avril, which is the one pictured here. She also got to see art by Picasso, Cezane, Monet, Manet, Warhol, Frida Kahlo, and Lictenstein, among many others. All of those artists make it sound more like a museum than a gallery but they have a ton of contemporary works too. They’ve just been collecting for a very long time. (Little known fact, the Albright-Knox was the site of the very first photography exhibition!)
I’m really looking forward to taking her back there. She loved it and I was in my glory.

Statcounter

I go on statcounter every so often just to see what random searches bring people to my little blog and they’re out there but there’s nothing so weird I feel like it warrants talking about.

What is weird, is the Buffalo ISP that visits my site regularly, around 4 times a week. I think I have an idea of who it is but obviously there’s no way to be completely sure. Really, it can only be one person since no one else knows about my site.

Do you guys know if it’s possible to get more specified data on this address?

Bounce Magic has gone so far above and beyond to help us find Bunny that it melts my heart. They’ve posted about it on their facebook wall, the one worker there (Steve) stayed two hours after they closed on Wednesday night looking for Bunny, even after Eric was there for an hour and a half doing the same thing earlier in the day (with Steve’s help) and now they’re offering a free monthly pass as a reward!
Tomorrow they’re going to call all 45 people who came there on Wednesday to ask if they’ve seen Bunny or if someone accidentally “adopted” her. (You have to sign in and put your phone number down just in case when you get in.)
I really can’t believe there are still companies out there willing to go the extra mile like this. Evie loves her Bunny with her whole heart and I think Steve understood that. It helped that he told Eric about his own daughter and her well loved Teddy Bear, I think.
I hope someone has Bunny and they bring her back. I would love to see the joy on Evie’s face when she gets to see her again.
(Click through to check out their facebook page. This is the second post they published about Bunny and I -under Eric’s name- just put up two pictures so they know what to look for.)

I can’t even…

Today my grandma was rushed to another hospital because she had to have emergency surgery on her legs to clear the blood clots that had formed. They ignored it for so long, despite my grandma, my mom and my aunt telling them there was something wrong with her legs that if they’d waited another couple of hours, she would have lost her legs.

The negligence going on at that hospital is beyond comprehension. It’s like they just wait for old people to die there.

Not once has anyone come in to check out her eyes and how she can’t see. No one has been feeding her, in spite of all the complaining everyone has been doing.

There’s more but I’m so livid, I can’t keep it all straight.

How could they let her legs get to that point?! When the doctor came in, he was pissed. Usually he said he waits 24 hours to do a surgery like that because you have to fast before it but he risked it because it was such an emergency. He couldn’t clear out the tips of her toes, so she might lose them but she’ll be able to walk even if she does lose them. He’s hoping that clearing out everything will cause those blood clots in her toes to work themselves out.

I’m just furious. How can a hospital like this stay open?! She was in the goddamnn intensive care unit! How to they treat the people on the normal floors?!

Look at all the snow coming at us!! Wooo! I hope I wake up in a winter wonderland!
Here’s a funny little tid bit:
When I was little, I thought you could tell if the snow on the ground or falling was lake effect snow just by looking at it. Whenever I heard people say things about lake effect snow, they were always looking at the snow outside, proclaiming that it was, indeed, lake effect snow. Honestly, I don’t think we get any other kind of snow here. We’re basically on top of Lake Erie.
And I was the smart one in the family. haha
